The
Cresson Sanatorium complex was reviewed by the Pa. Historical and Museum Commission in 1997
and 2001 to determine if it qualified to be designated a historical site. In both cases,
the answer was 'No', primarily due to the major alterations made when converting the site to a prison in 1983.
However, it did say that the Administration Building and Grace Chapel might be individually eligible for listing in
the National Register because of their architectural significance.
Also, in 1981, a Historic Site Survey was made of the San complex documenting
data on all of the buildings.
